Feb 28

Today’s Wednesday, February 28 morning started off a bit of a cluster fuck (pardon my language) because we were going to the Royal Palace and unfortunately I apparently didn’t dress properly for the Royal Palace so I had to change my shirt and then when I got to the bus I it was told that I also had to change my pants and finally we got organized. You see as a woman you had to be covered from your neck to your feet to enter.  On the way to our destination we drove through Chinatown District in Bangkok which really is another world in itself I have attached some videos and pictures for you to see it’s really pretty interesting.  first stop was a large temple the reclining Buddha Temple, it was amazing.  I am really impressed by the detail that went into the structure of all the Buildings and statues within the grounds it’s really too hard to explain it was very interesting though.   the building is now University that teachers a lot of different things including how to be a monk massage therapy also offers courses in meditation we got to see quite a bit of that going on while we were there.

It was really pretty cute we got to see some little girls being taught by the monk how to pray in chant.  It’s really all too amazing that you can’t really explain.  See below the pictures of the reclining Buddha and the videos that we are attached.  After this we visited the Royal Palace and again another issue on the way to the Royal Palace I lost my sweater and going there you cannot have any open shoulders so I had to run across the street to a local shop and purchase a shirt to wear with you will see in the photos the white cotton blouse that I’m wearing that was a last-minute purchase.   Entering the grounds of the Royal Palace was simply amazing it was also extremely hot the buildings were on believable everything done up in gold leaf the details of the buildings were amazing.  Many of the much of buildings were actually done up in pieces of China broken trying to from China much of the supplies used were brought over from China and used on the ships.  Entering the actual palace it was a large monument erected for prayer there’s a there’s a Buddha that sits on top of the monument that is changed three times a year each Buddha represents one of their seasons seasons are the rainy season summer and winter only time people are allowed to pray this monument you’re not allowed to take any photos so therefore I did not take pictures within the palace just observed its beauty the walls were covered with paintings.  We’re both feeling very fortunate at that time getting to understand a different culture and actually see you soon amazing architecture history, and culture supper another awesome lunch way too much food definitely diet when we get home and off to the airport for a flight to Chiang Rai.

Tuesday Feb 27 -No Rest For The Weary

Today was busy busy but always very interesting!  After breakfast we headed out in a bus Damnoen Saduak to the floating Market.  Bangkok’s floating markets are very well known. These are boats filled with fruits, vegetables, produced, and freshly cooked food being sold from the river.  On the way we took in the local architecture and way of life.  We drove by fields of water set into square plots in the fields here they drain in sea water to make sea salt.  The process of taking and drying takes 30 days to end product.  Next stop was to watch another THAI craft of making sugar.  I did not realize you could make sugar from the flower of a palm tree.  It is kinda comparable to the process of making maple syrup.  The difference is the flower is at the top of a palm tree and on a woody stem that is cut daily and the sap is gathered and boiled.  The photos below show some of the process.  Rob got right in there :). After this we hit the largest water market.  Here we enjoyed a canal tour in a long boat.  Waterways were an important part of traditional Thai life and are still used to transport goods.  The market is very colorful and filled with interesting sights, sounds and smells.  I loved this canal tour interesting and even saw a small reptile as seen in video below.  From here to a place that demonstrates many Thai cultural traditions such as silk spinning, fan and unbrella painting, music, pottery , weaving and some local cooking.  A small demonstration followed in a production backed by music.  Back to bangcock for supper an amazing spread of seafood.  Not for me but Rob enjoyed.  Well needless to say crashed when back to hotel at 845 pm.  Tomorrow off to The Grand Palace and the reclining Buddha.  Heading North tomorrow night to another city by plane Chiang Rai.
